JAMMU, DECEMBER 15 (KNO) : Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, stressing on students to focus on acquiring knowledge rather than just educating themselves, said that experimentation, practical application of facts and theories are key to gaining knowledge. Kavinder Gupta was speaking at the student Science Fair organized at Govt Girls High School Gandhi Nagar by Agastya International Foundation supported by R. Jhunjunwala Foundation and others with the support of Directorate of School Education, Jammu. Minister of State for Education Priya Sethi, MLCs Ramesh Arora, Vikram Randhawa and Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Director Education Jammu, Director RMSA, Director SSA, Joint Director Education Jammu, CO Education, Principal School besides senior political leaders including Yudhvir Sethi, Baldev Baloria were present on the occasion. Kavinder Gupta, lauding this initiative by Agastiya Foundation and Education department, said that such programmes should be regularly organized in government schools to give students the necessary exposure, encouragement. He said that the education imparted should be such that it stays with students throughout their life. He said that Government is working to enhance the education scenario in state by upgrading many government schools into model schools. Priya Sethi, while speaking on the occasion said that Education is a powerful force that can bring positive change in the world. She said that state government is making efforts to provide quality education which focus on both practical and theoretical aspects of learning. “Prime Minister said that we must develop ourselves as not merely job seekers but job givers. The state government is also focusing to become a producer state by training our students with practical training from the beginning”, the Minister said. She appreciated student’s innovation in making these projects out of waste materials. The dignitaries also visited various models displayed at the fair and interacted with the students. The students briefed them about their science models and their concepts. Earlier, the Speaker launched work for construction of three additional classrooms at Government High School, Digiana. The project is being executed under RMSA with an estimated cost of Rs. 13 lakh, for augmentation of school infrastructure.(KNO)
